About Dr. Silvera
Dr. Geoffrey A. Silvera, PhD, MHA, is a nationally recognized healthcare leadership expert, researcher, and speaker specializing in patient experience, health equity, and quality improvement. He is an associate professor in the Department of Health Services Administration and the Director of Graduate Programs in Healthcare Quality and Safety at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
As director of the UAB Health Equity Leadership Academy, Dr. Silvera mentors emerging healthcare leaders to drive equity-centered and patient-focused transformation. His research explores how hospital executives and healthcare leaders influence care quality, patient outcomes, and organizational culture.
Dr. Silvera holds a PhD in Health Policy and Administration from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Health Administration from the University of Florida. Before joining UAB, he served as faculty at Auburn University. His scholarship sits at the intersection of strategic leadership, patient experience, care quality and safety, and health equity. He studies how executive decision-makers shape system outcomes and institutionalize community engagement in healthcare settings. He serves on multiple editorial boards and is Associate Editor of the Patient Experience Journal wherein he has co-authored landmark studies on the evolution of patient experience research.
Through his teaching, scholarship, and advising, Dr. Silvera helps healthcare organizations align strategy, leadership, and patient experience to achieve measurable impact. His work champions the idea of patient-focused transformation—a model where listening to patients drives innovation, inclusion, and improvement in healthcare systems.
